J HEXX REVIEWS MONSTA SQUAD'S GRINDHOUSE HIPHOP!
in my assessment of the MONSTA SQUAD album, GRINDHOUSE HIP HOP, i actually see JUZ 10 really maturing into a better artist. from the few times we spoke, he was really open and willing to understand what it takes to get better at the craft of emceeing, and he really shows it on this album that he is really doing what he needs to do to excel at it. His highlight is in the song "Monster", where the concept of the song is how he, as a horror fan, uses the idea of horror film monsters as a way of describing how he should beast on a mike due to his love and passion for not only horror based media, but as a artist who takes his blend of horror and hip hop seriously. All the things we discussed in detail about horror and hip hop is apparent in his style and delivery of his verses, so he really shines on the album.
Of course we have the one and only Mr Kiltcha, who also murders the mic! His highlighted verse in "Horror Movies and Weed Smoke", i swear to you he nailed the way not only how he is as a artist in horrorcore, but actually nailed down the thoughts of a person infatuated by horror and hip hop-and how people in his mind state(which also includes myself) feel about the eventual evolution or revolution of the state of the horrorcore genre. As i listened to his verse on this track, i couldnt help but feel the same inside in regards to horror films and music, and how i even used it as a escape from life's ugly truths and situations.
As far as the entire album goes, i feel the album represents a way that helps move the genre forward, due to the deep thought put into the album's song contents. A album for horror and hip hop fans alike, i can say without a doubt, GRINDHOUSE HIP HOP is a step in the right direction, and marks a new era for the label 3SE music wise and conceptual wise.
It makes me happy as a artist to be a part of this album, and it was made by people who truly love horror and hip hop, and are making the moves necessary to help usher in a change for the horrorcore genre in general: the only way to move this genre forward is to get out the box and even allow others to relate to the mindstate I myself, Juz -10, Kiltcha and others live by. Grindhouse Hip Hop is more of a reimagining of the original 3se core sound, while updating it for new folks who arent aware of the older material. Not to say it sounds like the classic stuff, which i do not mean at all. What i mean is,quite simply, you can actually feel the music on this album was made by horror fans for horrorfans, and hip hop cats who like their music a bit darker than usual. Also, BOB e NITE also lends a executive producers hand in the mix, which results in a pretty ,polished sound thru the entire albums run time. Good work Bob, you deserve it.
The highlight songs of this album are: "Beauty and the violence","Monster","Italian Cinema", "Horror Movies and Weed Smoke", "World's Sickest Group" and "Horror Holocaust".
The only thing i think some folks may find not to their liking is some of the skits may seem long to them, but in my personal view, really did not bother me, because i know the intent of those skits are. I usually just light up a blunt , pop a bluey, sit back and vibe to them. Overall it's a package worthy of a full retail release, and the digi pak album cover is worth the admission as well.
in my view of the overall package i rate it:
4 out of 5 dead bodies- strong first effort, looking forward to another album frm these sick fucks.
